About Us. Sweetwater is a municipality in and the seat of Nolan County, Texas. It sits on Interstate 20 between Abilene, Tx in Taylor County, 45 miles to the East and Big Spring, Tx in Howard County, 68 miles to the West. The population is 10,906 as of 2010 census.
Dec 15, 2023 · Sweetwater. The town's name "Sweetwater" is the English translation of the Kiowa language word "Mobeetie". Sweetwater was just a little western town the first few years, where "Old Man Colt" was man's best friend. The story was told that at one time, on one block, from Levy Brothers' corner to the Texas and Pacific Depot, there were five saloons.
Sweetwater Fast Facts. There are 84.76 miles of paved streets in the city. There are 17 bridges within city limits. The population according to the 2020 U.S. Census is 10,622. Elvis Presley performed at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium on June 8, 1955.
