While it doesn’t support your melee effectiveness, Dispel Magic is always handy to have around. Suggestion also saved my party a time or two when I played a swords bard. Aside from that, definitely get Shield at level 10 when you can choose a couple of spells from other classes. Shield changes the game for a swords bard.
