- Ricky Nelson – 1957. Many parents found Elvis too sexually charged for their children, but they had no problem with Ricky Nelson. America watched Nelson grow up on television as the younger brother on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.

- Runaway – Del Shannon, Big Top (1961) Whilst he’s now considered one of the more reputable amongst their ranks, former carpet salesman Del Shannon was nonetheless very much situated within the teen idol camp at the time.
- Take Good Care Of My Baby – Bobby Vee, Liberty (1961) Bobby Vee first made his mark in awkward circumstances having occupied the undesirable position as replacement singer on the Winter Dance Party Tour after its stars – Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens – tragically perished in that infamous plane crash.

- A Thousand Stars – Billy Fury, Decca (1960) Billy Fury is, of course, well-respected as one of the UK’s finest rock’n’roll singers and a hyper-talented songwriter at that, but nonetheless this blond-haired, blue-eyed boy’s chiselled good looks were inescapable, as was his inevitable teen idol status.
