Terah or Terach ( Hebrew: תֶּרַח Teraḥ) is a biblical figure in the Book of Genesis. He is listed as the son of Nahor and father of the patriarch Abraham, thus he was an ancestor of the Ishmaelites and the Israelites. As such, he is a descendant of Shem 's son Arpachshad.

Although Terah worshipped idols and raised his family in the idolatrous city of Haran, his son Abraham independently recognized the existence of one true G‑d, and eventually left his father’s home for the Land of Israel.
