In Robert Z. Leonard: From silent to sound. Leonard’s first talkie with Shearer, The Divorcee (1930), was their most successful collaboration. Leonard was nominated for an Academy Award, as was the film itself, and Shearer won her only Oscar for her performance as a sexually emancipated woman.
