Upon the death of much-loved radio and TV humorist Herb Fuller, his manager, Sid Moore (Keenan Wynn), ropes young company reporter Joe Harris (José Ferrer) into putting together a lavish memorial broadcast. Interviewing several of Fuller's associates and acquaintances, Joe discovers that the popular personality was callous, shallow and selfish.
