In 2005 Miller's first novel was released entitled The Innocent Mage. This was the first novel in the Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series and was followed shortly after by Innocence Lost. The Innocent Mage was widely acclaimed on its release in Australia and was a finalist in the 2005 Aurealis Awards fantasy division.

The Innocent Mage reader reviews Daniel from England Well, the story is interesting, and I really wanted to know how it plays out, but this is at best a young adults book, and if your used to anything more complex than say the writing style of the Hobbit or even the Redwall books you might (I did) find it lacking.
