The Mekons, British rock group that exemplified punk rock’s do-it-yourself ethos. Founded by art students in Leeds, England, in 1977 and featuring songs informed by leftist political sentiments and laced with sardonic humor, the Mekons are one of the last original punk bands to remain active.
