The Phantom Planet (1961) cast and crew credits, including actors, actresses, directors, writers and more.
'The Phantom Planet' is almost your archetypal silly low budget 50s/60s sci fi movie. Set in 1980 (!) the story concerns a couple of astronauts on a mission to search for some colleagues who have inexplicably vanished.
The action commences, as the captain states in his log, on "March 16th, 1980." This was 19 years in the future in 1961, the year of the movie's copyright and release. As of 2018, the movie's 1980 chronology is now twice as far in the past as it was in the future in 1961.
"The Phantom Planet" is well worth watching: not because it's a great movie, but because it's not a great movie. Unlike the great movies, it never steps out of its box, and as such it's an amazing piece of social, cultural and cinematic history. Watching the movie is like watching an undiscovered episode of the original "Star Trek."
