The Virginian helps three women he meets in the southwest make their way to the Yaqui Indians where they want to be missionaries after the Yaqui killed their husbands. Along the way, he and the youngest woman become romantically involved.
The Virginian arrives in Monolith, Arizona to buy cattle from the Landers family but finds himself in the middle of a feud between the Landers and the Fromes. Marshall Frome and his brother are overbearing, but perhaps with good reason.
