Them Or Us – The Book. In 1984 FZ self-published Them or Us, a 351 page book created with a dot matrix printer. A facsimile paperback edition was released in 2010. Foreword. This cheesy little home-made book was prepared for the amusement of people who already enjoy Zappa music. It is not for intellectuals or other dead people.

On July 18, 1984, two years after the end of his last tour, Zappa went back on the road for an extensive, worldwide trek that ran through December 23. On October 18, he released a two-LP set, Them or Us. A month later came the triple-LP box set, Thing-Fish, on the same day as the Francesco Zappa album.
