Feb 9, 2024 · Ti Lung, born in 1946 as Tommy Tam Fu-Wing, emerged as a star during this golden age. He first gained major attention with the Shaw Brothers Studio, the powerhouse of martial arts cinema. In “The Duel” (1971), he displayed both martial arts mastery and a talent for conveying complex emotions and dilemmas.
Born in Guangdong, Ti Lung was educated at Eton School in Hong Kong. He worked as a tailor for a short time, despite becoming a student of Chu Wan--a well-known Wing Chun teacher. His extraordinary acting ability led him to audition for a leading role in Chang Cheh's 1969 film "Dead End".

Ti Lung is a Hong Kong actor known for his numerous starring roles in a string of Shaw Brothers Studio's films, particularly The Sentimental Swordsman and its sequel, and in the classic A Better Tomorrow. He studied Wing Chun under the martial arts master Jiu Wan.
Ti Lung has a reputation for being very serious and is one of the most respected actors working in Hong Kong today. His most recent accomplishment is winning the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 2000 Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in 1999's The Kid, starring Leslie Cheung and directed by Jacob Cheung Chi-Leung.
