Oct 13, 2006 · Tideland is a haunting tale of how innocence of youth deals with disturbing reality but the nature of the films title meaning; it’s combination of imaginative childlike fantasy and the uncaring, and often unnecessarily disgusting, twisted reality is ultimately its own downfall.

  9. While the film about the german fairytellers turned out to be almost grotesquely conventional and conservative, Tideland shows a courage for radical, daring and non-narrative cinema. Gilliam creates an essentially depressive vision of an orphan confronted with the irresponsible world mired in cynicism in which the child's gaze has to find its way.
