Tim Allenis an award-winning American comedian-actor. He is best known as Tim ‘The Toolman’ Taylor in ABC television show ‘Home Improvement’. Tim Allen is also an author and does voice-overs too.
Tim Allen was born Timothy Allen Dick on 13 June 1953 in Denver, Colorado, United States. His ancestry includes English, Irish, German and Scottish origins. His parents are Gerald M. Dick and Martha Katherine. His father was a real estate agent and his mother was a community service worker. At the age of 11, He lost his father in an auto car accident and after two years, his mother married her high school friend and then they moved to Birmingham, Michigan. Tim has a total of eight siblings.
Tim Allenwas educated at Ernest W. Seaholm High School, Birmingham, Michigan. Thereafter, he studied at Central Michigan University and later on transferred to Western Michigan University in 1974. He completed his bachelor’s degree in television and radio production. After graduation, he made money by selling drugs. After he was arrested on drug charges he spent two years in jail. After that, he started working as a sporting goods salesman.
Once, on a dare, he participated in a comedy night at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak. The challenge changed his life! Very soon, he started to appear in local television commercials and comedy shows like Gary Thison’s Some Semblance of Sanity. Later on, he moved from Detroit to Los Angeles to become a regular performer at The Comedy Store and did stand-up comedies. In 1991, he became the star of his own television series on ABC called ‘Home Improvement’ in which Tim Allen played the main character, Tim ‘The Toolman’ Taylor. The show continued from 1991 to 1999 and he was paid $1.25 million USD per episode. He worked in many hit movies like The Santa Clause, Toy Story among others.
Tim won various awards like People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male Performer in New Television Series, Annie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for Voice Acting in Animated Movies, TV Land Award for Fan Favorite, TV Guild Award for Favorite Comeback among others.
