Tim Downie was born in July 1977 in a village very close to Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England. He lived to a great childhood. His family had acres of fields and this made him feel like he had reign to go anywhere. But then, as he got older after several years of climbing trees, falling in rivers, and building rafts, the place did not offer him as much. And so, he started reading. His undying love for arts, he got it from his parents, who are "quite" arty. His father refused to watch anything that was made after 1948. He thus grew up watching Ealing comedies, anything that was black and white.

Writing and acting is something that comes to Tim Downie naturally. He began writing and directing short films while enrolled in drama school, during his twenties. He trained at Mountview Academy of Theatrical Arts in North London. His first commissioned play The Dead Moon became the first "non-operatic" work to be staged at the Aldeburgh Festival, followed up with appearances at Cannes some years later in the Straight 8 competition.

Tim Downie has been married to his wife since the 5th of September 2010. Every year on their wedding anniversary, Tim buys his wife an owl, not a real one because that would be unmanageable and possibly dangerous, saidTim with theresident.co.uk in January 2018 when he was asked about something the internet could not learn about him. A friend of Mr. Heughan, Tim joined into the Twitter banter with Outlander fans back in 2013, winning our hearts, and then eventually winning a role on Outlander, in Season 4, as the not-so-popular Governor William Tryon.
