Nebraska football fans took to social media to celebrate the 87th birthday of former Husker head coach Tom Osborne, a legendary figure in college football. Osborne, who coached the team from 1973-1997, left an indelible mark with a career record of 255-49-3, maintaining Nebraska as a powerhouse in the sport.

He was all-state in football and basketball, won the state discus throw in track, and was named the state's High School Athlete of the Year in 1955. He attended Hastings College, where his grandfather, class of 1901, and father, class of 1930, had graduated.

Oct 28, 2023 · Osborne-coached Nebraska teams captured 13 conference crowns, including six of his final seven seasons as head coach. All 25 of his Husker teams won at least nine games and played in a bowl, with 15 of his Husker teams winning 10 or more games. Osborne's 255 career victories are the eighth-most all-time among major college football coaches.
