May 18, 2006 · In his teens, Densmore became enamored with jazz—especially with the "evocative muscular grooves" of drummer Elvin Jones, who played with John Coltrane. Later, he met guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and a shy singer named Jim Morrison, and the foursome became The Doors—despite lacking an element most bands take for granted.

James Douglas Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) was an American singer, songwriter and poet who was the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the rock band the Doors.
3 days ago · Densmore authored several pieces, including the one-act Skins, in which he co-starred; he also earned an NAACP Award in 1987 as producer of Rounds. He then began work on his autobiography, Riders on the Storm: My Life With Jim Morrison and The Doors, which was published in 1990.
