Walker is located about 10 miles northwest of Grand Rapids and within close proximity to Van Andel Arena and Museum, Gerald R Ford International Airport, Houseman Field, Fredrick Meijer Botanical Gardens, Gerald R. Ford Museum, Walker Ice Arena and several premier golf courses.
History. The Township of Walker began its proud history on December 30, 1837, with the passing of a public act by the Michigan State Legislature. The far-stretching boundaries at that time had Walker going to the banks of the Grand River, and even included in its northern area all of what is now Alpine and Sparta Townships.
