October 22, 2010. Pop, Dance. 3:25. Ammo, Dr. Luke, benny blanco. Kesha wrote “We R Who We R” after reading about the increase in suicides among LGBTQ+ teenagers in 2010. The song became her response to the tragedy, aiming to be an anthem of hope and empowerment for those who may be struggling with their identity or facing discrimination.
Kesha explained to Spin magazine why she wrote this song: "Young people need a role model to tell them they're beautiful exactly the way they are and that they don't have to be apologetic about themselves," she said. "So I wanted to write a super-positive anthem."
