you could tag every fireball that gets within a players reach with for example “hitbyplayer” and then execute as the ghast boss to kill any fireball with that specific tag when its close to the ghast. so commands will prob be something along the lines of: execute as @a run tag @e[type=fireball,distance=4] add hitbyplayer
