If it grows normally, it will just grow upwards in a line, making a long, thin stem. If it undergoes fasciation, then it elongates/expands at 90° to its normal direction, so instead of the tip growing upwards, the whole thing stretches out sideways. You end up with a long line stretched out in a different direction to normal growth.
