I would expand strumming to rythmn guitar, which can involve riffs, and say yup, nothing wrong with just doing that. Malcolm Young, Nile Rodgers, Peter Buck, Johnny Marr come to mind as players who just don’t do solos. I’m a big rythmn guy, can play lead but don’t really want to and only do it when the song requires it.
