Basic Biographical Information. Auguste Comte was born Isidore Marie Auguste François Xavier Comte to a Catholic family in Montpellier, France, on the 17th of January in 1798. He is famous for contributing the notion of positivism, among other theories, and coining the term “sociologie,” prior to his death on the 5th of September in 1857.
