Lodi is a historic settlement located within the township. Hugh Crestie made the first land purchase in the area in 1824 in the Michigan Territory. Crestie never settled in the area, while Allen Williams built the first house in 1825. A post office opened on August 29, 1827 and later became the name of the township, which was established in 1834.
Mar 9, 2024 · Freedom Township is located in the southwest quadrant of Washtenaw County, Michigan, approximately eight miles southwest of the City of Ann Arbor. Township boundaries are two miles from the Village of Manchester, and five miles from the City of Chelsea. The township still maintains a unique rural character in rapidly growing Washtenaw County.

Washtenaw County.1 This was the first comprehensive history of the county and remains even today the ‘bible’ of early Washtenaw County history. It was very well done and the errors are few. Regarding the organization of Superior Township, this is what Chapman had to say:
