Apr 23, 2024 · In the late 1970s, a band called Sniff ‘n’ the Tears released a single that would eventually become a classic rock song. “Driver’s Seat” was written by the band’s lead singer, Paul Roberts, and it quickly climbed the charts, eventually peaking at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Released 1978, "Driver's seat" was one of those early attempts of a hybrid between rock and disco. The mix is very bass-oriented, adding new keyboard effects, focusing on the low-pitched vocals in the chorus and even replacing the original lead guitar parts by a sort of synthesized guitar.
Sniff 'n' the Tears formed in 1978 and after releasing their first album Fickle Heart, had a worldwide hit with Driver’s Seat, which reached 15 on the billboard chart in the USA in 1979.
