In 2004, researchers sought to exhume the remains of Catherine Antrim, Bonney's mother, whose DNA would be tested and compared with that of the body buried in William Bonney's grave. As of 2012, her body had not been exhumed.
Billy the Kid's grave is caged to protect the gravestone, which was stolen multiple times. He's buried with his closest friends, and he has a shared headstone and an individual foot stone. Other graves in the cemetery also deserve a visit.
