I could relate because I was a blue collar worker who spent six years in the Marine Corps in the term oil of the 1960s.

A really underrated entry in the sub-genre of post-war films chronicling the experiences of soldiers returning to the homefront. Based on a true story, Pride of the Marines looks at the story of Al Schmid (John Garfield) a hero at Guadalcanal who is blinded by a grenade. Garfield is absolutely fantastic and Eleanor Parker is a wonderful foil.
