Yakima is about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Mount Rainier in Washington. It is situated in the Yakima Valley, a productive agricultural region noted for apple, wine, and hop production. As of 2011, the Yakima Valley produces 77% of all hops grown in the United States.

Originally built along the new Northern Pacific Railway company line, Yakima has grown from its agricultural roots to become a vibrant, diverse metropolitan city. - Dive into History at the Yakima Valley Museum. Yakima Valley Museum is adjacent to Franklin Park at the city's center. It provides a fascinating look into the Yakima River Valley's past, present, and future.
- Yakima Area Arboretum. The Yakima Area Arboretum is nestled between Interstate 82 and Highway 24 on the city's east side. It maintains more than 40 acres of manicured green space and gardens.
