The actress and stage manager Elaine Anderson (1914-2003), also a native of Austin, was married to Zachary Scott Scott from 1934-50. She divorced him to marry John Steinbeck, the Pulitzer- and Nobel Prize-winning novelist. She met Zachary when both were drama students at the University of Texas. They had a daughter, Waverly, who was born in 1936.
