    Matt Dillon was born on February 18, 1964, in New Rochelle, New York in a Roman Catholic family. He is the son of Mary Ellen, a homemaker and Paul Dillon, a portrait painter and sales manager. He was raised along with his five siblings: one sister and four brothers. He is American by nationality and belongs to the Irish descent with some Scottish and German ancestry. He attended Hommocks Middle School and during that time he luckily got a chance to work in the teenage movie Over the Edgein 1978. He dropped out of school for some time and later joined the Mamaroneck High School.

    Matt Dillon began his acting career as a child artist in Over the Edge. After making the successful debut he was offered with two movies; Little Darlings and My Bodyguard, both the movies did an excellent job at the box office. In 1983, his Hollywood venture, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish succeeded to win the heart of audiences. He worked on many films such as; Tex (1982), Drugstore Cowboy (1989), To Die For (1995), Wild Things, There's Something About Mary (1998), The Art of the Steal (2013), Bad Country(2014) and much more. In 2002, he enrolled himself in directing too with the movie, City of Ghosts where he acted and wrote the screenplay. In 2004, he was cast in the Academy Award-winning movie Crash of Paul Haggis.
