Ada Lovelace was a 19th-century British countess and a pioneer of computer programming. She worked with Charles Babbage on the Analytical Engine, a mechanical calculator that could perform various mathematical operations. She wrote the first computer program for the engine, based on a French paper by Luigi Menabrea. She also speculated that the engine could be used for musical purposes.
