Life. Born at Reims in the summer of 953, Charles was the son of Louis IV of France and Gerberga of Saxony and the younger brother of King Lothair. Adelaide of Troyes. Adelaide of Troyes (955-991) was the daughter of Robert of Vermandois and the wife of Charles of Lower Lorraine. She had five children with him, including Otto of Lower Lorraine and Louis of Lower Lorraine, born in 970 and 989, respectively. She died in 991, two years before her husband.
