AHAZ (אָחָ֣ז, he has possessed; LXX ̓́Αχαζ; Josephus, ̓Αχαζης). The name is shortened from Jehoahaz ( whom Jehovah has possessed ) which, in turn, is the same as Ahaziah by transposition of the elements, -iah (=jah) and Jeho- being abbreviations of Jehovah, or, Yahweh.
