During the summer and fall of 1897 the desperados, often referred to as the "Jennings Gang," composed of Frank and Al Jennings, Little Dick West, and Morris and Pat O'Malley, robbed trains, general stores and a post office, with little monetary success.
Alphonso J. “Al” Jennings was a successful lawyer in Oklahoma until he turned to a life of crime and helped to establish the Jennings Gang of train robbers. Born in Virginia in 1863, Jennings and his family moved to Oklahoma and settled at El Reno.
The gang then made a crucial and atypically wise decision – they broke up. But U.S. Marshal Bud Ledbetter found the Jennings brothers hiding under some blankets on a wagon, and hauled them off to jail. A jury convicted them, and the judge sentenced Al Jennings to life in prison.
The Jennings Gang (c. 1897) was a gang of outlaws in the closing days of the Old West, notable in that one member was a former Wild Bunch gang member, Richard "Little Dick" West, and the leader of the gang, Al Jennings, ran for Oklahoma Governor in 1914.

Jennings was wounded by law officers on November 30, 1897, and captured one week later on Carr Creek near Onapa in present McIntosh County.
