AULANA L. PETERS - 2003 Recipient. ASECA is proud to announce that Aulana L. Peters has been selected as the eleventh recipient of the William O. Douglas Award. Ms. Peters' career with the SEC began in June of 1984 when she became a Commission of the SEC. She held that position until July of 1988.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan named Peters commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Thus, she became the first African American ever to head the SEC and the first woman ever to do so. In 1988, Peters returned to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, retiring from the firm in late 2000.
