All Alcatraz Island tours depart from and return to Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing, located along San Francisco’s northern waterfront promenade, on The Embarcadero near the intersection of The Embarcadero and Bay Streets. We are located approximately 1/4 mile from San Francisco’s beloved Fisherman’s Wharf.
Alcatraz Schedule Please note that all Alcatraz Island ferry schedules are subject to change without notice. Tours depart from Pier 33, are self-guided, and can last anywhere from two to five hours depending on your pace. After you have concluded your tour, the ferry will return you to your original departure point.
Bay Area Ferry Transportation Services The following ferry lines terminate at the Ferry Building on The Embarcadero unless otherwise stated. Ferries that stop at Pier 41 is where passengers can transfer to MUNI’s F & E Historic Streetcar line, private transit service, or walk to Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing.

Since the only Alcatraz tours that let you walk on the island are operated by Alcatraz Cruises, the ferry schedule defines the National Park Service hours of operation for the park. The trip takes about 15 minutes in each direction between the Pier 33 Alcatraz Ferry Terminal and Alcatraz once the lines are cast off.

The ferry ride was very enjoyable and scenic, about 5-10 in duration. They had a departure every 20 minutes I believe. The line was not long at all, and the wait was not tremendous as they allow lots of people on the ferry at once.
