Alcatraz Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse—the first one built on the U.S. West Coast—located on Alcatraz Island in California's San Francisco Bay. It is located at the southern end of the island near the entrance to the prison.
Dec 17, 2020 · The Brandt's and the Pelagic Cormorants are more common and breed on Alcatraz. In fact, Alcatraz is the only breeding colony site for these two species in the San Francisco Bay. Any boat traffic within 100 yards of the west, north, or south sides of the island can disturb the cormorants and impair their nesting success.
