My first novel as Alex North, The Whisper Man, was a Sunday Times, New York Times and international bestseller. It has been translated into over 30 languages and is currently being adapted for film. It was followed by The Shadow Friend. My most recent thriller is The Half Burnt House.
Alex North is a British crime writer who has previously published under another name. Alex North was born in Leeds, England, where he now lives with his wife and son. The Whisper Man was inspired by North's own little boy, who mentioned one day that he was playing with "the boy in the floor."

May 1, 2024 · Alex North (born Dec. 4, 1910, Chester, Pa., U.S.—died Sept. 8, 1991, Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was a U.S. film composer and conductor. North studied at the Curtis Institute and Juilliard. In the early 1930s he traveled to Moscow and became the sole American member of the Union of Soviet Composers.

Birth name. Isadore Soifer. Mini Bio. Alex North studied music at the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia, then won a scholarship to Juilliard in New York (1929) and the Moscow Conservatoire (1933), making him the first-ever American to become a member of the Union of Soviet Composers.
