It's not always clear why Alexa won't connect to Wi-Fi. This article will help you get your Echo Dot or Alexa-enabled devices back online and able to take your commands.
Several variables could cause Alexa not to connect:
•Your internet connection is down
•The router or modem needs to restart
•Wi-Fi is blocked
Follow these steps as needed to get Alexa up and running again.
1.Check your internet connection to be sure it's working properly. If you can't connect to the internet, Alexa can't do her job. If that's okay, the problem could be in your hardware.
2.Manually restart both the modem and wireless router, wait five minutes, then connect Alexa to Wi-Fi. Connectivity problems can sometimes be caused by network hardware, rather than the devices that connect to the network.
3.Restart the Alexa-enabled device. Power off or unplug the Echo or Alexa-enabled device, turn it back on, then connect to Wi-Fi again. Sometimes this kind of physical reboot of an Alexa-enabled device can fix the problem.
4.Confirm that the Wi-Fi password is correct. If the hardware is working properly, find another device on your Wi-Fi network, disconnect it, then reconnect it using the same password you use to connect Alexa. If the other device recognizes the Wi-Fi network but cannot connect using the same password, then the password you're using for your Alexa device is likely incorrect.
This is a common issue because Wi-Fi devices don't state the reason why they cannot connect to a network.
Note: If your device loses its Internet connection and won't reconnect, first try to Restart Your Alexa Enabled Device. If that doesn't work, or if your device has intermittent connectivity issues, try the following steps to resolve most Wi-Fi issues: Make sure that your Echo device is within 30 feet (or 10 meters) of your wireless router.
- Confirm that your Wi-Fi network name and password are correct. If you're having trouble connecting your virtual assistant to the internet, you should first make sure the correct wireless network and password are set up on your device.
- Check your internet connection. If you're now sure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi, confirm your internet connection is working properly. With your tablet, computer, or phone, connect to Wi-Fi and check your signal strength, then open a web browser or try getting online.
- Change the band Alexa is connecting to. If you have a dual-band router, it comes with two Wi-Fi frequencies: 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz. The 2.4 GHz frequency band works better at certain distances, so switching to it can boost the signal strength of your router.
- Restart your Alexa-enabled device. Sometimes, a simple restart is all you need to get your Alexa device back online. Just unplug your device or the power adapter from the outlet, wait about 10 seconds, then plug it back in and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Restart your devices. When you notice your device isn’t connected to your Wi-Fi network, the first step is to restart it. Simply power off and on your router and Alexa device.
- Check if the Router is turned on. If the device turns on successfully still without a Wi-Fi connection, move to the router. Make sure the router is on.
- Check if the device is within range. If both devices are on and functioning, the next thing to observe is the Wi-Fi range. You have to ensure your Alexa device is within your router’s range.
- Crowded Wi-Fi. A crowded Wi-Fi network can very easily distort and interrupt your internet connection. If you have many devices depending on the same Wi-Fi network, speed and connectivity are always compromised.
