The daughter of Friedrich-Wilhelm III of Prussia, Alexandra married Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich, heir to the Russian throne, in 1817. She was the mother of Emperor Alexander II. This work was made after a portrait of the Grand Duchess by Petr Fedorovich Sokolov, who painted her several times.

Most of the Prague booty remained in Sweden after Christina's departure for exile: she only took about 70 to 80 paintings with her, including about 25 portraits of her friends and family, and some 50 paintings, mostly Italian, from the Prague loot, as well as statues, jewels, 72 tapestries, and various other works of art.

After the transfer of Swedish Pomerania to Prussia in 1815, he was discharged from military service. Philipp proceeded to serve as a major and battalion commander in the Prussian army. In 1821 he was reassigned to the Alexander Regiment and deployed to St. Petersburg as a Prussian military representative.
