The following is a near complete listing of official songs by or sung by The Chipmunks and/or The Chipettes since the creation of the Alvin and the Chipmunks characters (David Seville and Dave Seville songs aren't included unless there's another version sung by The Chipmunks or The Chipettes). The names of a few covers are slightly different from their original names as they are recorded in the following list with the name they were listed in official merchandise. The names of some original songs may not indeed be correct if they haven't yet been verified.
The distribution of original and cover songs varies dependent on the character generation. In The Alvin Show, though cover songs dominate the series, a number of original songs still add to new content. The majority of songs from the 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks series are covers, some of which have light modifications to the original lyrics, with the notable exception of The Chipmunks episodes, seasons six and seven, which contain almost entirely original songs. All of the early films comprise heavily of original songs (Alvin and the Chipmunks and prior) while the later CGI/live-action films used more cover songs but still contained at least one original song (with the exception to Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked). Every song from the CGI-animated series, ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks, is an original release (with the sole exception of "Bad to the Bone").
