Apr 30, 2024 · Amédée Ozenfant was a French painter and theoretician, who cofounded the 20th-century art movement known as Purism. Ozenfant studied art in France at Saint-Quentin before moving to Paris in 1905. In 1906 he enrolled as a painting and architecture student at the Academy of the Palette.

A French artist, writer, and teacher active primarily in France and the United States during the first half of the twentieth century, Amédée Ozenfant is best known as co-author of the art manifesto Après le Cubisme (1918) and co-inventor with the architect Le Corbusier of the art movement Purism, a post-World War I critical reaction to Cubism.
