American Friends Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie (AFMO) is a non-profit organization with a mission to raise public awareness and financial support for the Musée d’Orsay and its sister institution, the Musée de l’Orangerie.
The Musée d’Orsay has one of the most unforgettable art collections, ranging from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. The museum formed its collection in 1986 compiling works from three different museums–the Musée du Louvre, the Musée du Jeu de Paume, and the former National Museum of Modern Art.
Housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900, the museum holds the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Berthe Morisot, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and van Gogh.
