1. A Levite, son of Kohath (prob. in the sense of descendant), the husband of Jochebed, and father of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam ( Exod 6:18, 20; Num 3:19; 26:59; 1 Chron 6:3 ). The Amramites, descended from him, had special duties in the wilderness Tabernacle.
