Anna Jagiellon. Anna Jagiellon ( Polish: Anna Jagiellonka, Lithuanian: Ona Jogailaitė; 18 October 1523 – 9 September 1596) was Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania from 1575 to 1587. Daughter of Polish King Sigismund I the Old and Italian duchess Bona Sforza, Anna received multiple proposals, but remained unmarried until the age of 52.
In 1575 the Polish nobility elected Anna queen of Poland and grand duchess of Lithuania alongside her husband and king, Stephen Bathory (1533– 1586). As the sister and successor of the last Jagiellonian king of Poland, she provided continuity and financial stability to the Commonwealth torn by the two interregna.
