Jan 5, 2015 · Obituaries : Anna Mahler; Sculptor Known for Larger-Than-Life Figures. Anna Mahler, a sculptor known for her larger-than-life figures and for her portrait busts of such musical giants as Arnold Schoenberg and Bruno Walter, has died in London, it was learned this week.
Since 2010 the Anna Mahler Association has hosted a series of residencies and projects with artists, writers and curators in Spoleto, Umbria, Italy. The programme celebrates Anna Mahler, sculptor daughter of Gustav and Alma, who kept a studio in the town.
She consistently studied the arts throughout her travels and took sculpting lessons in 1930 from Fritz Wotruba, a well known sculptor in Vienna, and ultimately won a Grand Prix in Paris of 1937. Anna was married in 1920, when she was only 16, to a young conductor named Rupert Kollar, which quickly fell apart and they divorced shortly after.
