At a basic list price of less than DM 12,000, the VW-Porsche 914 soon became a best-seller. 12,312 units of the four-cylinder, 1.7-liter engine version were sold in 1970 alone. Priced at DM 19,980, the premium-positioned Porsche 914/6 was powered by the Porsche 911 T’s 2-liter, six-cylinder engine, giving it impressive road performance.
With a price of 110,000 marks (around € 56,200 today), the 924 Carrera GTS 1981 became the most expensive production Porsche to date. It was based on the 924 Turbo (Type 931). June 1980 saw the launch of the 154 kW (210 PS) 924 Carrera GT (Type 937), further developed and homologated for Group 4 motorsport.
