Anthony Flanagan was the first Black quarterback to play for the Georgia Bulldogs in 1976. He scored a touchdown in his first game against Clemson and was the presumed starter for 1977, but grades issues caused him to leave school. He was followed by other Black quarterbacks who played for Georgia, such as Darryl Jones, James Jackson, and Derrick Harris.

During Southwest's perfect 13-0 campaign, Flanagan passed for 2,241 yards and 31 touchdowns, rushed for 12 touchdowns and, get this, kicked 60 PATs and two field goals.
