In 1988, Disney was pitched to develop a movie called Army Ants, about a pacifist worker ant teaching lessons of independent thinking to his militaristic colony. Years later, Jeffrey Katzenberg, then chairman of Disney's film division, left the company in a feud with CEO Michael Eisner over the vacant president position after the death of Frank Wells. Jeffrey formed DreamWorks SKG with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen and planned to rival Disney with the company's new animation division. Kat...

In 1997, a teaser trailer for Antz, depicting the opening scene with Z in the ant psychiatrist office, first played in theaters in front of select prints of As Good as It Gets. Anticipation was generally high with adult moviegoers rather than families and children.Antz was released to VHS and DIVX on February 9, 1999, and to DVD on March 23, 1999, becoming the first feature-length CGI-animated feature to be available on DVD. However, the DVD release used a 35mm print of the film to create the...

    Personality

Z is considered a friendly, talkative, and pessimistic ant.

One day, Z visits a psychologist ant and in an extended monologue tells him that he believes he was not cut out to be a worker and that his job is a problem because he's uncomfortable around crowds, and that he believes that there's something else better out there in the world but maybe he thinks too much. He also tells the Psychologist that he had a very anxious childhood because his mother never had time for him because he was the middle child in a family of 5 million, and his father was a...

Z is a neurotic ant who takes therapy sessions in order to deal with his many issues, such as parental abandonment (his father left him when he was just a larvae). However, beneath his quirkiness is a courageous heart and an intelligent mind: he has risked his life more than once in order to save Princess Bala and his friends, and led the entire colony in creating an enormous tower made of ants in order to escape a flooding tunnel. The song that he only sings is "Almost Like Being In Love" when he swoons while working in a groovy style after the scene that he has been knocked off.

Woody Allen hated doing the film mainly because the producers had him record all of his lines in 5 days and even had him redo some of the lines.
Z is similar to Flik from A Bug's Life as both are ants and both are love with and later started a relationship with the princess of their colony (Bala and Princess Atta).
    Z's real name is Marion.
Z is the first DreamWorks Animation animal character to be a protagonist, followed by Ginger from Chicken Run.

The Termites were first mentioned by General Mandible and Colonel Cutter. The General and Colonel said that the Termites were desperate for foraging grounds (despite the fact that they lived in a wooden stump), and the colonel had gathered up a list of all platoons loyal to the queen, and not General Mandible. The General declared war on the termite mound, in order to kill off both the Ants, and the termites, both of whom could have posed a threat after the rebellion, as it was the queen who made and kept peace with the termites. At the Termite's colony, the ant soldiers (including Z) attempted a siege. They marched for several minutes, an hour or even possibly several hours. When the ants finally reached the termite colony, a large piece of wood, they yelled battlecries and charged in. Everything was quiet inside and everyone wondered where their termite prey were. All the termites were presumably killed, though the Termite queen was never shown to be killed, and all the ants excep...

When one of the Termites noticed Z, it began to squirt acid at him and it shows Z's feet were touching the acid. This is possibly an error in the film.
General Mandible, Colonel Cutter (formerly), The Termites and The Human are the only antagonists of the movie.
They were voiced by Charile Skanker, who only did them growling.
The Termites appear to be very wise, since one of them ambushed an Ant Soldier and killed him.
The Termites use large mandibles to seize and crush ants, even with their armour and exoskeletons.
Termites are Larger than the ants, and can be seen falling on top of ants upon death to crush and suffocate them.
The Termites can use their claws to punch, claw and backhand opponets.
Some people think that the termites ate the Ants due to the biting the ants with their mandibles, but in fact, Termites eat only Wood, grass and mushrooms (and the products of such things, like pap...
Termite's designs look closer to a Termite worker than a Termite soldier.
Oddly, despite being able to lift a wrecking ball full of ants, no ant was able to lift a termite.
Termites only had one caste in the film, in reality they typically have 3 (soldier, worker and reproductive).
