Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (/ ˈ æ n z ə b ə ˈ r eɪ ɡ oʊ /, AN-zə bə-RAY-goh) is a California State Park located within the Colorado Desert of southern California, United States. The park takes its name from 18th century Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and borrego, a Spanish word for sheep.

It is located on the traditional homelands of the Cocopah and Cuahuilla. The Anza expedition camped here from December 20 to 22, 1775 (historic campsite #52) along Coyote Creek at El Vado (The Ford).
On the eastern side of the Peninsular Ranges, which block most storms coming in off the Pacific, California’s largest state park protects 600,000 acres/242,811 hectares of desert terrain, including dramatic badlands, cool palm oases, twisting slot canyons, and cactus-studded slopes.
